Fifteen projects were entered in the 2008 CRA Program. |
|||
|
Our judges visited every one of these homes in one
day to determine the winners. As usual, our member put up some
great projects, and that made the process that much more difficult. But, in the end, only one
project could win in each category.
In our opinion, every one of these entries deserves an award because the homeowners are very pleased with the results and are happy with their contractors. Here's a quick look at each of the entries this year. Winning projects are marked with the CRA logo on the right. Thanks to everyone who entered and we look forward to seeing your future projects. |

Hinson
Cabinet & Supply - Buchanan Kitchen Remodel
This entry took our judges to Blythewood and to a very pleased return customer for Steve Hinson... kind of. Turns out that Steve's father had worked with the Buchanan's in the past, so when they needed a kitchen update, they went back to who they liked. The result is an award-winning kitchen with a cooktop-island that makes for a very happy homeowner. |

E. Schuler Painting & Renovations - Gaulphin Kitchen Remodel
Many of the houses in downtown Columbia offer residents big lots, great location, interesting floor plans and, sometimes, undulating floors. This house gave the remodeler some challenges including building up the kitchen floor so that it would be level. After that challenge, the remodeler had typically small space to work with, but worked in new stainless steel appliances and made good use of the space. |

Hinson Cabinet & Supply - Stevens Kitchen Remodel Yet another kitchen that time passed by. The Stevens' contacted Hinson Cabinet Company in order to bring this space up-to-date. There was no room available to add space to the kitchen, so the remodeler had to gut the space and reimagine the space. Every major appliance was updated and relocated making for a better flow to the space. New cabinets, hardwood floors and new lighting reenergized the kitchen. |

& Remodeling Solutions, LLC - Parker/Corwin Kitchen
The homeowners here were tired of looking at pink cabinets in their cramped, outdated kitchen. The remodeler helped them design a new kitchen removing a load bearing center wall and a major partition wall. The kitchen was relocated to the garage wall to create a new space from the old kitchen and dining room, and a home office was added that blended seamlessly into the kitchen. |

Hinson Cabinet & Supply - Finch Kitchen Remodel
This 216 sq. ft. kitchen needed an overhaul to bring it up to the 21st century. New oak cabinets and a slate tile backsplash certainly helped. The view of the lake was enhanced by removing a window and replacing it with insulated glass. A final decorating touch of custom glass globes from One Eared Cow Glass tied it all together. |

Wise Guys
Home Improvement, LLC - Reiff Master Bath Remodel
Another downtown house with a lot of charm in need of a bathroom update. The Wise Guys already redid one bathroom in the house and were called back to get the master bath up to par. All new tile works well with the rest of the house and the space was well-used in this project. The homeowner is very happy with the results, and so were our judges. |

E. Schuler Painting & Renovations - Cowden Bath Remodel Located down the street from the previous entry, this master bath remodel brought some of the same issues of limited space to work with, and some different challenges such as transforming a tub/shower into a walk-in shower. The remodeler did a great job of working with the client's wishes and needs, came up with some innovative solutions and ended up with a very nice master bathroom. |

Hinson Cabinet
& Supply - Tighe Master Bath
The Tighes were undergoing a renovation in their house and needed some special attention in the master bath. Space was added to the original bathroom and now includes dressing room, storage space and a sitting area. Our judges liked the "nice use of a long, narrow space. Colors and shapes really define the sophisticated look. Very nice techniques used to maximize storage in the space." |

& Remodeling Solutions, LLC - Lake Murray Water Damage Repair
and Renovation A busted laundry machine supply hose made for big trouble in this house. Remodeler Cliff Cinamon worked with Catastrophe Services Inc. to repair the water damage, and then restructured the entire garage area, added extra space for an office off the kitchen, updated the kitchen with unique stainless steel wrapped beams, and also worked on the lower-level bedrooms and hallway. This was a big job in a unique home with a great location on Lake Murray.... a CRA winner, for sure. |

E. Schuler Painting & Renovations - Ivory Tower Renovation A lot of work was needed to bring this residence up to the standard needed for an upscale boutique. There are too many details to go into here, but since this is a commercial space, we invite you to visit for yourself. The Ivory Tower is located at 2614 Devine Street in Columbia. While you're checking out the remodeling (and the dresses), make sure to ask owner Lee Lumpkin how the remodeler went out of his way to save some stray cats before the project got underway. |

Design
& Remodeling Solutions, LLC - "The Man Cave" This company is becoming known for taking "dead" attic space and converting it to usable space. This entry took an innovative approach to get to the space before any work began, namely a tower of scaffolding in the backyard. The finished product is "The Man Cave" and according to our judges, "The pictures do not do this one justice. Excellent planning and execution." They continue, "The finished room is very pleasing to be in." |

Hinson Cabinet
& Supply - Tighe Renovation
Hinson kept the vision that won a CRA for the master bathroom going for the rest of the house, and got another CRA for the main renovation. The objective here was to maximize and optimize all living space on the 2nd floor to accommodate the customer. Many obstacles had to be overcome during the remodel, but 700 sq. feet was added and the homeowner is very pleased with the results. |

& Remodeling Solutions, LLC - Griffin Renovation/Addition A neighborhood review board held up this home remodel for years until Cliff Cinamon got involved. He drew up plans to add a sunroom, an office off of the master bedroom, and a new finished room over the garage that utilized some dead attic space. They also reworked the master closet and ceiling. 1,000 heated square feet was added when the project was done. |

Design & Remodeling Solutions, LLC - Mullins Screened Porch The homeowner here had a nice sloping, natural backyard, but couldn't really enjoy it with the small, open patio that was on the home. She contacted Cliff Cinamon and he took the existing space and expanded it into a very nice sized screen porch and open deck. The homeowner and her dog, Lucy, love the new space and feel like they have the mountain home they've always wanted. |
